Bristow Employees Around the World Ask “Are You Ok?”

September 13, 2014

Bristow locations around the world recently participated in R U OK? Day 2014.

For Bristow, R U OK? Day serves as a company-wide day of awareness to promote connections and conversations on a personal level among individuals and to prevent small personal problems from becoming larger ones. Bristow is proud to support R U OK? Day and the R U OK? Foundation as part of its Bristow Uplift program.

"R U OK? has become part of the fabric of our culture with annual and ongoing events that raise awareness within Bristow," said Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Hilary Ware.

Below is an overview of each location's activities.

Africa
Lagos employees hosted a mixture of serious conversations and fun socializing with colleagues. Discussions included the importance of being open and honest about underlying medical issues and the importance of physical exercise. In the spirit of healthy activity, the employees participated in an on-site fitness session.

Australia
In Broome, employees hosted a morning tea. The leftover food was delivered to a local organization that supplies food to disadvantaged children.

Perth employees kicked off R U OK? Day with a morning tea that included yellow cupcakes and healthy snacks. While enjoying the snacks, employees watched a video from R U OK? General Manager Brendan Maher. The video thanked Bristow for all of their continued support. The Perth office was also the host site for the official launch of the R U OK? Foundation’s latest Afield campaign.

Europe
Aberdeen employees received massages and participated in meditations. Also, a wide range of sessions covering physical and mental health topics were available.

In Norwich and Scatsta, employees competed in a cycle challenge. Competitors paid an entry fee of £2, with proceeds benefiting Rethink Mental Health. Norwich won the challenge by cycling an impressive 177.92 miles in eight hours on a static bicycle.

In Redhill, employees had health fitness tests, hula hoop and press-up competitions, followed by a Zumba class. After burning all those calories, they balanced it out with a cake sale, with proceeds benefiting St. Catherine’s Hospice.

In Norway, guest speakers focused on the theme "A Healthy Lifestyle = More Daily Energy." A local doctor and physiotherapist spoke to employees about diet and physical activity, and focused on how to get more energy in day to day life.

North America
In Titusville, a guest speaker from a local wellness center visited employees and led a stress management workshop. Neck and shoulder massages were available throughout the day and employees received reusable R U OK? tote bags filled with healthy snacks, giveaways and literature on R U OK? and other mental health resources.

In New Iberia, employees participated in a series of presentations on mental health.

Houston employees enjoyed fifteen-minute chair massages and healthy meals throughout the day.

In Trinidad and Tobago, hand reflexology and back massages were available to help employees relax. A Zumba class was also available to get employees' hearts pumping. Breakfast and lunch were also provided for employees, which allowed colleagues to engage in conversation and ask each other "Are you ok?"
