Bristow Helicopters Ltd Supports Employee in Fundraising Push

March 01, 2016

A Bristow Captain undergoing cancer treatment is fundraising for a local cancer charity.

One of Bristow’s longest serving pilots, Captain David Turner, has already fundraised over £5,300 for Friends of Anchor in recognition of their ongoing commitment and support during his cancer treatment.

“I was diagnosed with cancer after falling ill whilst on rotation to Bristow’s operations in The Falkland Islands. Since then I have undergone an intensive period of chemotherapy and have received fantastic support from Friends of Anchor.

“My family has been my greatest support and once I decided to give something back to the charity my son set about organising a rugby match with Garioch Rugby Club to help the fundraising effort. Friends and family collected from the crowd and after the game we had an auction and a raffle of about 40 prizes which were donated from the team, local businesses, family and friends. I would like to thank everyone for their support.”

Captain Turner has worked with Bristow for almost 30 years - hitting the milestone in October this year - and has flown the Bell 214 ST, Sikorsky 76A+, AS332L1 and the Sikorsky S92 during his career with the company.

Alan Corbett, managing director of Bristow Helicopters Ltd, said: “We want to do our best for David during this challenging time. We have made a donation of £250 to his chosen charity and will also provide a two hour slot in one of our simulators which he will auction off at the Garioch RFC Dinner in May. We wish him the very best in his recovery.”

The Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy (ANCHOR) unit is an NHS department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which treats patients with all forms of cancer, leukaemia and benign blood disorders throughout the North-east of Scotland including Orkney and Shetland.

Friends of ANCHOR was set up to directly support the ANCHOR unit by committing long-term funding to medical equipment, patient wellbeing and local research.
