Bristow Search and Rescue Team Honoured at Awards Ceremony

October 25, 2017

Bristow Helicopters Search and Rescue (SAR) team based at Lydd Airport has been honoured, by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, with a prestigious Partnership Award for its work with the organisation’s emergency services.

The group of 32 dedicated individuals, comprising pilots, specialist paramedics, winch operators, engineers and support staff were commended for their exceptional co-operation with the NHS at essential paramedic exercises and training.

Bristow (Lydd) chief pilot Neil Robertson accepted the award – which was presented by David Highton, Chairman for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust – on behalf of the Lydd SAR team.

John Weeks, emergency planning officer, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust said: “We nominated the Bristow SAR team because of the exceptional co-operation and partnership in working with us at emergency training and exercises. This is crucial in the training of critical care teams such as paramedics, which are essential to the NHS in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.

“The team continue to go above and beyond their responsibilities to ensure staff are well-trained and provide invaluable advice on safety and policy in emergency situations.”

Alan Dale, deputy chief pilot / stakeholder liaison officer at Bristow’s Lydd base, commented: “This award highlights the effort, determination and dedication shown by Bristow, HM Coastguard and the NHS to improve patient care.

“Through close cooperation with the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, we have been able to increase efficiency and better equip their critical care team to discharge their duties when operating in challenging and unknown environments; all whilst continuing to ensure safety remains at the forefront of every operation.”

The Lydd SAR base has conducted a total of 425 SAR operations since August 2015.

Lydd Airport hosts the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter base for the south-east which has been operated by Bristow Helicopters since April 2015.
