Bristow Helicopters and Eastern Airways to Brave Cold for Charity
A team of Bristow Helicopters and Eastern Airways personnel will join a national effort in braving freezing temperatures for one night as part of the Sleep in the Park fundraiser on Saturday, December 8, raising more than £3,000 for charity in the process.
Organised by social enterprise charity Social Bite, which aims to eradicate homelessness in Scotland, last year’s Sleep in the Park event in Edinburgh raised £4 million.
The fourteen-strong team includes Eastern Airways cabin crew members Denise Gardiner, Nikita Turriff and Madiha Iqbal; pilots Dawn Scott and Billy Curry; as well as Bristow Search & Rescue’s director Russ Torbet; and Bristow Helicopters’ head of flight operations Tim Glasspool.
The group has coordinated its efforts through Bristow Uplift, an internal programme which sees the business partner with local communities, charities and non-profit organisations to support social responsibility initiatives.
Matt Rhodes, director of Bristow Helicopters’ UK operations said: “With the number of homeless people living in Scotland higher than ever, it’s an issue we felt strongly about supporting this year. Through Bristow Uplift, we already support a range of local charities in Aberdeen including Grampian MS Therapy Centre and Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE).”
Russ Torbet added: “As the temperature continues to drop in December, it’s going to be a tough night outdoors for our team, but this is the reality many face every night not just in Aberdeen, but across Scotland. I’m very proud to be part of this event, raising vital funds for such an important cause.”
Sleep in the Park is taking place in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee on Saturday, December 8, with Scottish music stars KT Tunstall and Amy Macdonald due to perform across all cities.
